Lorenzo is a Full Professor of Business Law at the Faculty of Law of the Università degli Studi di Firenze, where he started teaching in 2002, as well as a practicing lawyer in Florence. He has earned an LL.M. from Columbia University (USA) in 1995.  He has also been a visiting researcher in various universities in England (Cambridge, Oxford) and in the United States (Columbia, UC Berkley, Stanford).  Lorenzo has held several seminars and lessons at many esteemed institutions, such as the Bank of Italy, the European Commission, the University of Cambridge, the European University Institute, Confindustria, the University of Oxford, the Bocconi University, CONSOB, the EU Court of Justice.  He has published widely in law journals, newspapers and information websites. Lorenzo has provided assistance in several legislative reforms. Recently, he has served as a member of the Group of Experts in charge of assisting the European Commission in the preparation of a directive harmonizing restructuring and insolvency law in the EU, which is expected to be presented to the European Parliament by the end of 2016.  He has counseled the Bank of Italy and the Italian Government in the transposition of the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (2014/59/UE) and collaborated to the 2006 comprehensive reform of Italian insolvency law as well as to the recent reform implemented by Law Decree No. 83/2015. Lorenzo is member of the International Insolvency Institute and of the Thematic Working Group on “Law and the Economy – Insolvency and creditor/debtor regimes” established in the context of the Global Forum on Law, Justice and Development. Alessandro Danovi is Associate Professor of Management at the University of Bergamo, Department of Management, Economics and Quantitative Methods since 2006, where he also serves as the director of postgraduate Master in Management of Crisis and Restructuring (University of Bergamo Business School). In addition, he is also a contract Professor of “Crisis and Turnaround Management” at Bocconi University of Milan. He was a visiting professor at the Université Jean Moulin Lyon III and Université Lumière Lyon II seminars on crisis topics in 2009-2010. Alessandro serves as the Director of the Research Centre “Osservatorio Crisi e Risanamento delle Imprese- OCRI”, a joint venture between Bergamo University Elab, Bocconi University and several other universities.

He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian chapter of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), chairman of the scientific committee of the Associazione dei professionisti del Risanamento Aziendale (APRI), coordinator of the Gruppo di Studio e Attenzione (GSA) on “Principles of crisis management", established within the Italian Academy of Business Administration (AIDEA), which drafted the Italian "Attestation” Standards, member of the Chartered Accountants CNDCEC Committee for the reform of the insolvency law and for evaluation of distressed companies, director of IRTOP, Journal of Investor Relations, and member of the Scientific Committee of the Journal Management delle Utilities, of the Italian Turnaround Monitor (TAM) promoted by the University LIUC of Castellanza and of some postgraduate Masters in various universities.

Monica currently serves as a senior lawyer at the legal department of the Banca d’Italia. In this role, she is in charge of counselling and research activities in the fields of financial regulation and insolvency law. Monica participates in study and expert groups at various international institutions, among other, the EU Commission, the European Central Bank, the Financial Stability Board, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, UNCITRAL and Unidroit. She is admitted as a senior attorney at the Italian Supreme Court, and has an extensive experience in representing the Banca d’Italia in several judicial cases regarding bank crises and restructurings. Monica is the author of papers and articles on financial regulation and bankruptcy law and has lectured in Law postgraduate and master’s courses at various universities. Riz holds the Chair of Law and Legal Theory at University College London (UCL) (UK) and is a Visiting Professor at the University of Florence (Italy). He received his Ph.D. from UCL, his BCL Honours from Oxford University (UK), his LLB Honours from UCL and his BSc in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics from the Government College Lahore, Punjab University (Pakistan). His scholarship on bankruptcy, financial sector regulation, property and trusts, and legal theory has influenced law reform in the UK, and has been cited with approval by several courts. He has also practised as a barrister from South Square Chambers in London, advising on insolvency, restructuring, trust and property law issues in England and several British Commonwealth jurisdictions. From 2009-2013, Riz was Senior Counsel to the World Bank, and headed the Bank’s Global Initiative on Insolvency and Creditor/Debtor Regimes. Since then, he has served as Senior Law Reform Consultant to the Bank. In these capacities, he has advised the governments of some twenty countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe on reform of insolvency and creditor/debtor systems, involving policy analyses of national legal and regulatory regimes, helping national authorities to rewrite legislation and strengthen judicial capacity, and engagement with the full range of stakeholders. Since 2009, Riz has been an active participant of the World Bank’s and then the UK’s delegations to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, working on the bankruptcy of cross-border enterprise groups, the duties of directors in the period approaching bankruptcy, and the enforcement of bankruptcy-derived orders and judgments.

is a professor of law at the Law School of the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (Germany). He wrote his Dissertation (Dr. iur.) and his Habilitation at the University of Munich; and he earned an LL.M. from the University of California at Berkeley (USA) in 1984. As a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Alexander v. Humboldt-Stiftung he had also been at UC Berkeley in 1989 and 1990. He is external member of the faculty of the St. Gallen-Hochschule, and has held guest professorships, among others, in Paris (France), Cape Town (South Africa), Fukuoka (Japan), Brooklyn School of Law (USA), University of Sydney, Tongji University in Shanghai (China) and Lomonosov University in Moscow (Russia). Since 1998, Christoph has served several times as a Consultant to the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., and Consultant of World Bank in Washington, D.C., regarding inter alia insolvency laws and legislation. From 11/2006-11/2011, he served as Adviser of the German delegation for the UNCITRAL deliberations on group insolvency law and further topics. He is member of the International Insolvency Institute (of which he is presently a Vice-President of), the International Association of Procedural Law, of the American College of Bankruptcy, of the International Academy of Commercial and Consumer Law and of the Instituto Iberoamericano de Derecho Concursal (extraordinary member), and currently serving as the Chair of the Academic Forum of INSOL Europe.

Ingacio is currently a Professor (Profesor Titular) of Corporate and Insolvency Law at the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid (Spain). He has earned a Ph.D. in Civil Procedure from the Università degli Studi di Bologna (Italy) and a Ph.D. in Commercial Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), and his LL.M from University College London (UK). A qualified lawyer, Ignacio was Of Counsel of the Business Restructuring and Insolvency Practice of Hogan Lovells, LLP (Madrid Office, then Lovells LLP), until he joined the World Bank. Ignacio is currently a Senior Legal Consultant at the World Bank’s Financial Sector Practice and Consultant on insolvency-related matters to the IMF´s Legal Department. Ignacio is the Coordinator of the Comparative Law Module of the LLM of La Sapienza, where he is a tenured lecturer in several postgraduate degrees. Ignacio is currently Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Monetary and Economic Studies of the Bank of Japan, and has been visiting scholar in a number of universities (for example, the University of British Columbia-Vancouver, the Università di Roma La Sapienza or the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez of Chile). He has been guest lecturer at the Università di Torino (Italy), the China-EU School of Law (China), University of Law and Political Science (Beijing, China), or Asia Institute of Transnational Law (Duke University/University of Hong Kong). Ignacio is a Member of the Board of Director of the International Insolvency Institute, where he co-Chairs the Academic Committee. He is also a Member of the Academic Board and a Founding Member of the European Banking Institute. Ignacio has represented the World Bank in UNCITRAL´s Working Group V (insolvency) and Spain and the International Insolvency Institute in Working Group VI (secured transactions). Nigel is Reader in Law and Social Statistics at UCL, Head of Data, Design and Analysis at PPL Limited and an independent researcher and consultant. He is an expert in empirical legal studies and work across a broad range of projects (spanning civil and criminal justice) where methodological or statistical expertise is required. His own research interests include exploring the role of law in everyday life, public understanding of the law/legal rights, the experience of and response to legal issues, the interaction between legal and health problems, design of legal services, legal aid and access to justice, empirical research methodology and statistics. Some of his recent research projects include work on public understanding and interaction with the law (for The Legal Education Foundation), how people respond to legal problems (for the Legal Services Board), how legal and health problems interact (for Youth Access) and what happens to clients when solicitor’s firms are closed down (for the Solicitors Regulation Authority). His current projects include legal capability scale development, analysis of legal issues faced by small businesses and work on perceptions of safety from crime. His research is multidisciplinary, spanning a range of disciplines, using both qualitative and quantitative approaches and employing a broad range of research designs and methods. Much of his research is designed for a policy audience and his survey work, in collaboration with Professor Pascoe Pleasence, has become central to the development of access to justice policy.

Francesca is a postdoctoral researcher (“assegnista di ricerca“) at the Università degli Studi di Firenze. She received her Ph.D. in Law and a Master in Business Consulting from the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia (Italy). She has passed the state examination for the qualification as chartered account and works as one in Treviso (Italy). Her research focuses on corporate insolvency and restructuring law, commercial law and contract law. Francesca has published a number of articles and comments on these topics.

Amber holds a PhD in Law from University College London. She is also Barrister from Lincoln’s Inn and holds a Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude in Economics (with a concentration in International Economic Relations) and English Literature (with Honors) from Bryn Mawr College, USA. In 2014, Amber was enrolled as an Advocate as the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Amber has worked with prominent constitutional and corporate law firms in Pakistan. She has also served as the Executive Director (Law), Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan for a period of two years.

She is a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Law, Economics & Society (CLES) and a Teaching Fellow at UCL where she works in the areas of competition law, law and development, comparative law, intellectual property rights and company law. Amber’s most recent research in focuses on a qualitative and quantitative comparative analysis of the impact of transfer strategies adopted by India and Pakistan in acquiring their competition laws on the subsequent implementation of these laws in the countries. The research particularly focuses on the roles of legal and political institutions on the transfer process and implementation of these laws. Amber has also contributed to the Draft Global Food Value Chains and Competition Law BRICS Report, with a special focus on the Indian food sector.

Francesco is an associate Professor for Commercial Law at the Law Faculty at the Università degli Studi di Firenze since 2010. He received his Ph.D. from the Università degli Studi di Brescia (1999). Francesco also practices law with Studio Legale Tombari D’Angelo e Associati, located in Florence and Milan. His research focuses on commercial law, banking law and regulation, and financial markets. Iacopo is a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Florence.  He has received his Ph.D. from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in November 2016 defending a thesis entitled “Corporate insolvency in the time of bank bail-in: Exploring the way forward”, which won the XII annual prize for the best Italian doctoral thesis in corporate or banking law for the year 2016 (awarded by the Associazione Gian Franco Campobasso). Iacopo has earned his LL.M. at Stanford Law School in 2013, after graduating in law summa cum laude at the University of Florence in 2010.  Before committing to this research project, Iacopo has conducted a research under a grant awarded by the University of Florence in 2014 and focused on the rights of shareholders in corporate insolvency, particularly in the context of bank resolution.  The same subject has been at the heart of his research activity when he contributed to the EU negotiation process that led to the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (2014/59/UE) while serving as a temporary member of the Supervisory Regulations and Policies Department of the Bank of Italy from April to July 2012.  Between 2010 and 2012 Iacopo has worked with the Italian offices of one of the major international law firms counseling national and international clients on corporate, banking, and insolvency law.  He is a qualified lawyer in Italy and in the State of New York (USA). Recently, Iacopo has assisted Professor Lorenzo Stanghellini in supporting the Italian Ministry of Economy to draft the reform of the Italian Bankruptcy Act enacted by the Law Decree No. 83/2015 on June 27, 2015.

Marta is an Assistant Professor (Profesora Ayudante Doctora) at the Department of Commercial Law of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). She has received her Ph.D. from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2013), a LL.M. in Business Insolvency from Universidad San Pablo-CEU (2010) and a LL.M in Business Law from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2009). She is admitted to the bar in Madrid and has been a lawyer at Baker & McKenzie and a freelance advisor for private and public institutions on insolvency proceedings. Marta’s research awarded her several scholarships. Ilaria is a researcher (“assegnista di ricerca”) at the University of Florence.  Ilaria received her Ph.D. from the University of Milan in 2016 in Corporate Law and Securities Regulation. She graduated in law, summa cum laude, at the University of Florence in 2011. Ilaria is admitted to the bar in Italy and licensed to practice as a mediator. Before committing to this research project, Ilaria has conducted a research under a full scholarship awarded by Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg and focused on Shareholders’ conflict in close corporations. Between 2012 and 2013 Ilaria has conducted research under a grant awarded by the University of Florence focused on Mediation and Negotiation for Business and complex Organizations. During this time she served as a legal expert for the Civil and Business court in Florence and Pistoia under the direction of Professor Paola Lucarelli. Ilaria’s research activities have been instrumental in developing the pilot project directed at implementing court-annexed mediation in the Italian system of justice. Ilaria research interests are in international and comparative commercial and corporate law, insolvency law, (behavioral) law and economics; (behavioral) corporate governance, mediation and conflict resolution systems design.

Francisco is Professor of Private International Law at the Universidad Autónoma di Madrid (Spain) where he was awarded his Doctor in Law in 1991. Francisco has been very active as an expert in various delegations and advisory boards, among other, designated by the Spanish Government to participate in the negotiations of the Hague Convention on the Indirectly Held Securities Convention (member of the drafting committee), the Principles on choice of law in international commercial contracts or the Judgment Project, UNIDROIT Convention on intermediated securities, participate in the Spanish delegation in the EU Council, Committee on Civil Law Matters: European Enforcement Order Regulation, Rome II Regulation, Rome I Regulation, and Member of the Expert Group on Insolvency Law established by the EU Commission. Silvia is a senior economist at the Bank of Italy; she is the Deputy-Head of the Law and Economics Division of the Department of Economics and Statistics. Her research interests include corporate governance, bankruptcy, judicial enforcement, regulation, institutions and growth. Paola is a Full Professor of Business Law at the University of Florence, Department of Legal Science. Her teaching activities are also International Trade Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution and Conflicts Mediation. Paola is a Member of the Academic Board of the PhD in European Private Law; she has been visiting researcher in the Universities of Heidelberg and Cambridge. Paola is the Director of “Un Altro Modo”, a Centre of Researches and Training on ADR. Her most important research fields are Relational Commercial Agreements and Dispute Resolutions Methods; Enterprises and Conflicts Mediation. Paola partecipates to an ERC Granted Project on “The Judicial Conflict Resolution” and coordinates the experimental projects inside the Court of Florence on Conflicts Mediation. Alfonso is a Ph.D. student in the Faculty of Laws, University College London (UK).  He holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto, a J.D. from Queen’s University, and an LL.M. from the University of Western Ontario. In 2017, he will be a Visiting Professor at Western’s Faculty of Law, teaching comparative and international insolvency law.  Previously, Alfonso was called to the Bar of Ontario and practiced corporate and commercial law in Toronto. His research focuses on corporate insolvency and restructuring law from a comparative perspective.  Alfonso received a number of academic scholarships and prizes during his studies and has published a number of articles and spoken at academic conferences in these areas.

Alberto  is a senior Senior Lecturer on commercial, corporate and bankruptcy law / Professor (Profesor Titular) Department of Commercial Law at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid as well as diverse specialized aspects of corporate finance and company acquisitions. He received his law degree and his Ph.D from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, and he earned an LL.M from the University of Georgetown, Washington D.C. (USA). He has given lectures in specialized courses in various public and private institutions, including the European University Institute of Turin (Italy), the University of Lima (Peru), the Economists Association of Madrid (Spain), the Madrid Association for Management Development (Spain) and the Madrid Stock Exchange (Spain). Alberto is also the Director of the Center for Continuing Education at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain), and works as an Of Counsel at Garayar Abogados SL where he has acted as counsel and advisor of firms on a wide range of corporate affairs and contracts, debt restructuring, pre-insolvency agreements and bankruptcy proceedings. Annika is a postdoctoral researcher (“assegnista di ricerca”) at the Università degli Studi di Firenze, a postdoctoral fellow and lecturer for strategic management at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt (Germany) and a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Law, European University Institute (Italy). Annika received her Ph.D. in Law from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2014), her MA in International and European Business Studies from the Universität Bamberg (2006) and her LL.M. in Business Law from the German Graduate School of Management and Law (2009). After working for a financial institution in investment banking, restructuring and distressed debt portfolio management in various countries around the world for several years, she was awarded a two-year Max Weber Fellowship at the European University Institute (2013-2015). Her research focuses on international and comparative restructuring and insolvency law, financial regulation and supervision, (behavioral) law and economics, corporate governance and entrepreneurship. She has held a guest professorship at Lanzhou School of Management (China). Annika is a member of the NextGen Program of the International Insolvency Institute (Class II), and an academic member of INSOL Europe and INSOL International.

Wolfgang is a research assistant at the Law School of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Germany) and has been working with Christoph G. Paulus in different capacities since 1997. He completed his legal training in Berlin in 2001 and was a lecturer for insolvency law at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as well as a lecturer for private, commercial and company law at SRH Fernhochschule Riedlingen (Germany). His international teaching experience includes classes at Univerzita Karlova v Praze (Prague, Czech Republic), Uniwersytet w Białymstoku (Białystok, Poland), Eötvös Loránd Tudományegyetem (Budapest, Hungary), Uniwersytet Wrocławski (Wrocław, Poland) and King’s College of London (England). His primary research interests are German and European insolvency law, including the law and practice of restructuring, the law of enforcement and debt recovery, commercial and company/corporate law. Wolfgang has published over 100 journal articles, book contributions, commentaries, didactic case studies, case notes, book reviews, conference reports and similar contributions.

Andrea is an aggregate professor of Business Law at the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia since 2012. Andrea has received his Ph.D. from the Università di Brescia (2006) and an LL.M. from the New York University (2007). He also practices as an independent attorney-at-law in Venice, dealing with litigation in company and bankruptcy law and with the reorganisation of distressed companies.  Andrea has participated in an expert group for the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance on Capital Markets Regulation, and is one of the Co-Leaders of the “Human-Centered Business Model” project, promoted by the Global Forum on Law, Justice and Development at the World Bank. His research focuses on company and insolvency law, where he has published numerously.
